THE TWO AREAS MULTIDISCIPLINARY RESIDENCE

logo_residenza1The Two Areas Multidisciplinary  Residence is a multidisciplinary cultural district recognized by Piedmont Region, which works as a true cultural network connecting 12 city councils in the provinces of Turin and Cuneo.

The first triennial of the Two Areas Multidisciplinary Residence, from 2004 to 2006, has created a schedule of year activities. Many events have received a particular extra-territorial interest and social revitalization for parties, places and moments of reflection (StagionEvento, The Secret Story: Autumn Vigils, Festival of Provinces, Cheese, MuseAteatro, Audience Building, “ Meetings” Theater Season). Then, the Residence developed close collaborations with Slow Food, Deik, Civic Museum and Gipsoteca Calandra, a cultural institutions present in the territory.

For the second triennial, we were urged by many city councils to extend these coordination and economies services.

We wanted to characterize the operations of the Two Areas Multidisciplinary Residence, according to the available resources, by emphasizing  the identity of each center of attention. The biggest news was the great collaboration on voice as communication. The economies of scale allowed by the Residence was also reinforced by real allocations, so that artists such as Enzo Moscato, Ambrose and Henry Bonavera Sparagna could have in these three years a house to work (training, workshops and performances). Also the service center, the documentation of " The House of Theaters", workshops for schools, the University for senior citizens, the Theater for Kids, reviews and productions concerning the territory have played an important role.

The Two Areas Multidisciplinary Residence has been always interested in  the specific training and making of spectacular events,  where protagonists are the boys following activities and locations of the Residence (seminars, workshops, exhibitions and festivals).

In the city councils joining the Protocol there are intensive labs and workshops for both children and adults, which are held by our company, by both national artists and international guests.

The activities of Residence-conferences, seminars, workshops, festivals and events were documented and archived within the operational place "The House of  Theaters” and they are available for schools, local associations and municipal administrations.

This multidisciplinary triennial is ending in 2011, when it will be celebrated the 150th year of the Italian Union.
The Two Areas Multidisciplinary Residence will match a project of the Ritual Calendar to the History of Italy and Piedmont. The Ritual Calendar comes from a work made "on land" of anthropological researches and community theatricality, including scientific skills and experimental approaches.

The popular theatricality, which is used for various purposes, assumes again its special function to rebuild communities, through the recovery of ended traditions which let new societies born and be added to the old ones. So, in the popular theatricality, the social performances show their offer of themselves and their interest for the Other – a present of poetry defining the actors’ actions during the different phases of the theatrical scene. So, the memory turns into a precious machine recreating gestures, projections, perspective acts.

Thus it is necessary to match  tradition and innovation, in order to start from the origins, from the memories, from the traditions and then rebuild and reinvent them, by discovering the future being in them.

The history of Italy is marked by historical divisions. Anyway the Italian Union in 1861 could put together many different and various peoples and it was a unique experience of  comparison and exchange in the European and world history. These rich and interesting differences will be the leitmotiv of our story of the Italian Union, told through the eyes of the great peasant crowds, their lands and their dialects.

Piedmont had a central role in the events of the Risorgimento: Beato Cottolengo, St. Leonardo Murialdo, Don Bosco, St. Dominic Savio, St. Luigi Orione ( important social saints for Piedmont) and great historical figures such as Vittorio Emanuele II, Cavour, Massimo d'Azeglio and Angelo Brofferio  are important characters of our traditional tale.
